What good posture looks like
* A-P: The heights of our shoulders, hips, and knees are equal, and we are holding our head level.
* Lateral: A straight, vertical line can be drawn from the center mass of our head (that point is one inch in front of our ear), through the shoulder, hip, and knee to our ankle.
* Lateral: There's a forward curve in the neck (cervical curve), a backward curve in the upper back (thoracic curve), and a forward curve in the low back (lumbar curve). **The three spinal curves give our spinal muscles leverage and enable the back to be aligned in the front-to-back position.
Posture is the key to health... Posture and the structure of the spine are a requisite to maintaining health and normal function. Abnormal posture can cause alterations in some of our basic physiological processes, such as headaches, blood pressure, emotions, lung capacity, and hormonal production. While most people think posture is something you can control, it is mainly reflexive and involuntary. The best way to make a lasting change to spinal structure, or posture, is to correct posture from a reflexive, involuntary standpoint. This is the focus of the Pettibon System that is utilized in this office.
